Corporate or Employer Supported Volunteering

Corporate or employer supported volunteering describes any effort by an employer to encourage and assist employees to volunteer in the community.

Corporate or employer supported volunteering goes beyond simple philanthropy - it is a desire across the business to achieve common good.

Some employers run formal employer supported volunteering programs, others free up time for employees to do their own volunteering and this form of volunteering presents a myriad of opportunities to the not-for-profit organisations where they volunteer, and to the organisations that employ them.

The advantages of corporate community volunteering over traditional community investments such as cash donations, donations in kind, or donations of equipment, include:

  • Visibility
  • Team Building
  • Developing skills and experience (eg leadership, communication, project management)

Corporate volunteering can address:

  • The Skills Shortage - sharing expertise
  • Health System Overload - by keeping mentally and physically active
  • Provide a Pathway to Jobs - job experience and CV
  • Phased Retirement - a way of retaining key staff nearing retirement
  • Winding Down - creating networks outside of the workplace.

VSA&NT Corporate Volunteering Consultancy Service

VSA&NT can manage a corporate employee volunteer program, to ensure a good match and a win-win situation for the not-for-profit as well as the corporate. This also ensures standards are in place and that voluntary work takes place in healthy and safe environments.

If you wish to engage VSA&NT to assist you with an employee volunteering program, this Corporate Matching Service incurs a Project Management fee. This fee covers an initial meeting to discuss the program to ensure that it is fulfilling the aims, interests and objectives of the company's strategic program as well as the aims of individual volunteer team members. We also offer a free presentation for your staff members in your office, to explain the many and diverse opportunities available to them in the community.

As part of our service, we advise you of the optimal opportunities available in relation to the size, composition and management of your volunteer team or individual staff opportunities - and we also liaise with your volunteer team manager to discuss the staff's particular interests, aims or objectives.

Also, to help with reporting on the project and to document your projects, we can feature your organisation's volunteer projects in our high quality Vitality magazine.
