Inspiring the Volunteer in You. "The 10th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10), first launched in 2001, offers an exceptional opportunity to join a global effort to reinvigorate the spirit of volunteerism."
Background of the International Year of Volunteers, IYV In 2011 the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10) will be marked by celebrations and activities at the global, regional and national level by volunteer involving organizations, governments, UN agencies, foundations and other stakeholders. Building on the momentum and success of IYV in 2001, the objective of IYV+10 is to recognize the important contributions made by volunteers and to celebrate volunteering as an expression of our common humanity and as a means of building mutual respect, understanding, trust, solidarity and reciprocity. The overall goal of marking IYV+10 is focused on promoting greater global recognition of the contribution of volunteerism to society and to achieving peace and development (at the regional and national levels).
