National Volunteer Week (NVW) is the largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia, and provides an opportunity to highlight the role of volunteers in our communities and to say thank you to the more than 6.4 million Australians who volunteer

Volunteering SA&NT, is a not-for-profit organisation and the peak body representing the interests of volunteers and the volunteering sector in South Australia and Northern Territory.

Volunteering SA&NT began as The Volunteer Centre of South Australia in 1982. Our mission is to promote and celebrate volunteering and play a key leadership role in advancing volunteering by providing an extensive range of services, support and resources for over 2000 volunteer organisations annually and some 600,000 volunteers.

Volunteering SA&NT is community spirited, inclusive and innovative; and we promote a culture of learning. We work with individuals, organisations and communities who are interested in volunteering to:

  • Provide a credible and informed voice in volunteering
  • Be the centre of knowledge and expertise in volunteering
  • Position volunteering as a core component of a high quality of life
  • Work with volunteers and volunteering communities to enrich the volunteering experience
  • Increase volunteering
  • Encourage self-reliance in volunteer management, recruitment, retention and recognition of volunteers

Volunteering SA&NT is part funded by State and Federal Governments for its peak body role and to provide a range of services. These services include advice to government, training for volunteers and volunteer involving organisations, volunteer referrals, research and policy development.

Our Key Services Include:

  • Volunteer Referral Service: Our experienced interviewers talk to potential volunteers about their interests and skills, options for volunteering and are linked with organisations that need volunteers.
  • Training, Support & Professional Development: Volunteering SA&NT provides training and support to Volunteers, Volunteer Managers and Volunteer Coordinators in areas such as volunteer management, how to recruit young volunteers, teamwork, enhancing customer service skills and many more. Our workshops are conducted by professional trainers in an environment that enables discussion, the exchange of information and the development of core skills.
  • Policy & Research: Volunteering SA&NT seeks to advance and encourage research into volunteering in South Australia and the Northern Territory, to aid the development of methodologies and understandings of volunteering processes and practices. Volunteering SA&NT also provides policy advice to the volunteer sector and other volunteering peak bodies, interstate and overseas.
  • Working with Targeted Populations: We promote inclusion in the volunteer sector and offer supported volunteer placements for ex-offenders and volunteers with a disability. Volunteering SA&NT also works in partnership with the Aboriginal Reference Group, which was formed to advance volunteering in Aboriginal and wider Australian communities.
